South-East Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Chief Olisa Metu, has said that the party will win the February 6 governorship election in Anambra State because its candidate, Prof Charles Soludo, is the best among the contenders.
‘The ticket is formidable, and both Soludo and his running mate, Senator Emma Anosike, tower above the rest’, he said in Lagos at a reception in honour of the flagbearer.
‘With their vision, if we support them, Anambra is sure’, he added, urging the people to vote wisely.
At the reception, Soludo unfolded his plans for the state, saying that, if elected, he would sponsor a bill to herald the birth of Anambra State Investment Corporation to fast tract the revival of economic activities in the state.
The former Central Bank governor also said that an international airport is due for Anambra State.
To halt the recurrent power outage, Soludo said he would facilitate an Independent Power Project, adding that the move would foster rapid economic development.
The flagbearer pleaded with kidnappers to halt their heinous crimes or relocate outside the state if they fail to repent after the swearing in ceremony.
Metu who was guest at the reception described PDP as the dominant party in the state, stressing: ‘it is a party of talent, and it is more democratic than other parties where it is a one man show’.
He said PDP is the only party in the country where party leaders can call an erring governor to order.
Metu said, for the first time in Anambra State, an accomplished person who has impeccable record in public service is the governorship candidate.
‘When he indicated interest, I said he should prepare for insult. He chose the harder path than the easier one which is to go abroad after retirement’, he stressed, hailing his entry into the race.
The party leader said Soludo offered himself for governorship to serve and not because he is jobless.
He challenged other candidates to submit their resume for comparison with Soludo’s, pointing out that it is a thing of joy that the scholar, economist, banker and seasoned administrator has come home to add value to politics in the state.
Metu described Anosike as a perfect match, saying that as a grassroots politician, the combined talents would lead the state to greater height.
The money raised at the reception were handed over, not to Soludo , but to the party.
